The Anderson's Are Open for Business

John and I are now open for business after 4 weeks to the day that we evacuated for Hurricane Ike.

Some things are the same: We are in Galveston about 9 blocks from UTMB, red kitchen supplies, only one car (which is a pain), still neighbors with Sarah, John can still walk to the lab, trash still clutters the streets and boats are still on the causeway, no general access in town to doctors, UTMB, Strand, our bank, post office, and beaches

Some things are new: house, furniture, place to go to school, new work and school hours, closer to the beach (you can see it from the house), busy schedules, restaurants are slowing opening up and getting full menus, Wal-Mart, pharmacies, and Target are open (though not always stocked), more stop lights are working

Some things are improved: we now have hot water, AC, electricity, and internet, we had our first meal at home on Sunday, have our own place to go at night, a refrigerator to store food in, curfew is much shorter, can drink the water now, we started getting mail yesterday

Some good things: We should be receiving aid from FEMA, the church (Clear Creek Community Church) met almost every major need we had left this weekend, the church also met several of our friend’s needs, a friend came to help John move us in while I was in class, we found a place to stay and for mom and dad to stay while we were here waiting for our new apt to be finished (Kevin and Meghan’s), no flat tires yet

Soon, I will post pictures of the new place, but for now I am studying hard. I had a test today and I have a test Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week. God bless John for all the work he has done moving us in while I have been at class and studying. Ladies, he even scrubbed the kitchen floor for 4 hours on Sunday. What a guy!
