The Greatest Social Need

Some of you may know my career goals lie with the disadvantaged people and public health. Alot of the time, this means multiple social problems including no health insurance, homelessness, drug addiction, jail time, and prostitution. My interests have pulled me to social health concerns like HIV/AIDS, TB, infectious diseases, and caring for the uninsured.
Although I do not have a solution for these problems, I know my opinions. The heart of many of these social problems is a consequence of a lack of a relationship with God. My work with these people does not solve their many issues, but by caring for them without discrimination I hope to introduce them to the unconditional love of Christ. I am excited that the Church of today joins in many of these outreach programs.
In our Evantell letter this month I saw an article that summarized my perspective well. Socialized medicine, free clinics, and welfare only puts a bandaid on a much bigger problem. Check out this article from Christianity Today, The Greatest Social Need.
This is the kind of thing that gets me excited to be a PA, and I hope it gets others excited to serve in some way too.

Amen! We are so proud of the work you have done at UTMB already. I know you miss your job now that you are in PA school, but I also know you will be even more equipped to work out your passion for the lost when school is over. God Bless You!
